  • A shared passion for giving our children a voice and creating environments for them to thrive

  • Understanding that self-care is little more than a band-aid without community care

This space is different

The Parent Collective is open to all parents of neurodivergent children, but it may resonate most with those who:

Question the status-quo and have big heart energy

Work in or around the childhood space — education, allied health, early years, inclusion, advocacy

Have both lived and learned experience of neurodivergence

Are deeply committed to change for the greater good, not solely focussed on their own children

Are raising children in alignment with their values — around autonomy, co-regulation, authenticity and inclusion.

Enjoy reflecting with others, as well as sharing ideas and resources

Aren't afraid of passionate discussion or the occasional F-Bomb

Value self-reflection & uncovering and understanding their own needs alongside those of their children

Are cycle-disruptors - committed to doing things differently for themselves and the next generation

INTRODUCING THE PARENT COLLECTIVE / THE PARENT COLLECTIVE / TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER/

WHY THE COLLECTIVE EXISTS

WHEN SPEAKING UP IN EDUCATION MANY OF US HAVE NOTICED

  • A system that prioritises compliance over curiosity

  • Sensory, communication or emotional needs overlooked

  • Behaviourist approaches dominating the conversation

  • Plans made and not followed through

  • Pushback - or worse when we raise valid concerns

  • A lack of genuine understanding of the needs of our children

We believe every child deserves access to an education that not only supports their learning and development,

but also nurtures a strong, positive sense of self along the way.

MEET THE person behind the collective

Hey, I'm Sarah!

I’m a social worker, educator, and neurodivergent parent — who's had a lifelong love of education. Throughout my career I've studied primary teaching & tertiary education, taught at the tertiary level and been a social worker within the mental health space as well as schools.

As a child, my dad would often get my attention by calling me “dreamer.” It feels fitting now, knowing what I do about myself. I’ve always been someone who noticed things most didn’t — patterns, questions, possibilities — and wanted to understand how things could work differently, especially for the people and systems we care about most.

The heart of my work (and passion) sits in the overlap between neurodivergence, childhood, education, systems thinking, neurobiology and deep care — for people and the planet. It’s a space I return to often — to learn, to notice, to imagine what else could be possible. I’m especially guided by those with lived experience, and by research and wisdom that challenge the status quo in meaningful ways.

This collective grew from a desire to share that space with others who feel the pull too — folks who are values-led, deeply caring, and often quietly working at the edges of systems (or perhaps right in the centre); trying to make things better for kids, families, and communities. People who know things can be different — and are holding that vision, even when it’s hard.

Here, we get to bring our wonderings, our wisdom, and our weariness. We get to learn from one another, share resources, and feel a little less alone in the messy, hopeful work of reimagining what’s possible. A community of care.

You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to care. And if you’re here, I already know you do.

Frequently Asked Questions

EVERYTHING THEY NEED TO KNOW

Can I use NDIS funds for this?

Unfortunately not, however additional opportunities to attend workshops and training for parents/carers which may be claimed using NDIS funds will be periodically offered to members of the collective.

Can I cancel my subscription?

Yes, you can cancel at any time from inside your account.

What time will body doubling & online meetings occur?

Body doubling will be scheduled twice a month for 2 hours each time, these will alternate between morning and afternoon times. Members are also welcome to arrange their own sessions at any time.

Online catch-ups will be scheduled based upon group preference and (if relevant) availability of guest speakers.

I'm not a parent, can I join?

Yes, absolutely - we welcome allies who share our collective care for children - and commitment to genuinely inclusive education.

My child isn't in mainstream school, is this collective for me?

We believe you’ll find value here, as this collective honours all forms of education. Our focus is on supporting neurodivergent children to thrive — and we know there are many pathways to that. While many members are passionate about influencing change within mainstream education (and that will often come up in conversation and workshops), several of us also have experience with home-based learning, unschooling, or are actively exploring alternative approaches.

If that’s your path, your perspective is not only welcome — it’s incredibly valuable. It can enrich the collective and offer us new insights and possibilities about what education can look like. We also understand that if your focus is solely on home or unschooling, you may prefer a community centred more fully around that. If you're looking for a space that shares your values, welcomes varied experiences, and centres connection, care, and collective growth — you're very welcome here.
